There are over 600 Tibetan names for the components of owl rigpa medicinal compositions. In turn, each Tibetan name in different medical traditions may correspond to different plants or minerals.
The recipe is usually given in Tibetan, and the specific substances are determined by the local tradition.

The Materia Medica Sova Rigpa cards collect information on flavors, actions, parts used, and medicinal properties from more than 70 sources.

Full reliable scientific information on all the names of the raw materials used is also given. For plants, this includes: Latin names, synonyms, range of growth, chemical composition, medicinal uses, and botanical information.
